I am Ben Ryder, a 2003 graduate of The College of Architecture at Mississippi State University. This five year accredited program consists of a four year professional core of history, theory, management, design, and technology along with a unique final year in Jackson, Mississippi, providing a transition from the academic foundation to the professional realities of architecture. While at MSU, I was able to diversify my education by taking extra courses in computer technology, art, and photography. I also worked in a variety of areas such as landscape design and irrigation system development to broaden my background in related fields. After graduation I was fortunate to be able to take a "sabbatical" of sorts to pursue some endeavors that I probably won't be able to indulge in for some time. I continued my work with the youth program at Advent Presbyterian Church and was able to again be part of the Outdoor Challenge Program, taking 5th through 8th graders to the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina to introduce them to outdoor activities such as whitewater kayaking, caving, and rappelling. I also have helped my family with home remodeling, and traveled to Florida to spend time with my ninety year old grandparents. Since then, I have put my portfolio on this web site and continued to work short term contract jobs. I look forward to finding employment as a first year intern with a reputable architecture firm. I believe I can offer detail-oriented, high quality work while gaining knowledge and skill through the Intern Development Program. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my portfolio.
